Join now: YANAA’s Youth Talk Abortion: Advanced Level Online Workshop Series

Youth Talk Abortion will be a facilitated online workshop series designed by youth advocates for youth advocates in the age group of 18-35 to to strengthen the capacity of the young abortion rights activists and strengthen the abortion rights movement. Post the workshop series, the participants will be invited to join the YANAA network as members to continue the dialogue with other youth advocates from other contexts and regions.

In spite of more than 100 years of campaigns in country after country around the world for the right to safe abortion, the continuing criminalization of abortion kills and harms countless thousands of women every year, especially young and single women and those without the contacts and resources to obtain a safe abortion. This situation is often grounded in colonial laws that have never been abolished, and are supported by right-wing and anti-women governments, politicians, judges and religious leaders.

On 28 May, we will commemorate the International Day of Action for Women’s Health and join with activists around the world to highlight our demands for the right to access safe abortion. Amid growing global crises and uncertainty, we assert that continuing rollbacks, shrinking civic space and proliferation of false narratives have a negative impact on sexual and reproductive health and rights, especially among disenfranchised and marginalised communities. We come together to combat the multiple crises we face by calling on our governments to recognise that access to safe abortion is essential health care and central to all crisis responses.

El 28 de mayo conmemoraremos el Día Internacional de Acción por la Salud de la Mujer y nos uniremos a activistas de todo el mundo, a fin de resaltar nuestras demandas por el derecho al acceso al aborto seguro. En medio de las crecientes crisis e incertidumbre globales, afirmamos que los continuos retrocesos, la reducción del espacio cívico y la proliferación de narrativas falsas, tienen un impacto negativo en la salud y en los derechos sexuales y reproductivos, especialmente entre las comunidades marginadas y negadas de derechos. Nos unimos para combatir las múltiples crisis que enfrentamos, para hacer un llamado a nuestros gobiernos para que reconozcan que el acceso al aborto seguro es una atención de salud esencial y fundamental, que tiene que estar presente en todas las respuestas a las crisis.

Au milieu des crises mondiales et de l’incertitude croissantes, nous affirmons que les reculs continus, le rétrécissement de l’espace civique et la prolifération de faux récits ont un impact négatif sur la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs, en particulier parmi les communautés privées de leurs droits et marginalisées. Nous nous unissons pour combattre les multiples crises auxquelles nous sommes confrontés en appelant nos gouvernements à reconnaître que l’accès à l’avortement sécurisé est un soin de santé essentiel et au cœur de toutes les réponses aux crises..
