What a remarkable September 28 campaign it has been! International Safe Abortion Day 2025 demonstrated the strength in solidarity of the Unstoppable Abortion Movement, advancing safe abortion globally despite the current political landscape and the rise of anti-rights actors.

The theme for this year’s campaign, “Safe Abortion is Life-saving Healthcare!”, emphasized that access to safe and comprehensive abortion care is a cornerstone of reproductive healthcare and a fundamental human right. The campaign highlighted the urgent need to prioritize sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and justice, including safe abortion, in global health and development agendas as an essential pillar of gender equality and sustainable development.


This year, our initiatives reached millions, combining engaging online content with dynamic offline activities, marking a significant increase in reach and continuing to surpass previous records. Let’s take a closer look at the key highlights from September 28 and celebrate how communities everywhere came together in solidarity for reproductive rights.

Across regions, organizations, collectives, and SRHR activists mobilized locally, nationally, and globally through diverse acts of solidarity, community care, and movement building. Many engaged their communities through coordinated September 28 actions—including forums, workshops, mobilizations, public discussions, and solidarity events—that brought people together across different contexts. Activists also harnessed the power of storytelling to share abortion experiences, highlight community gains, and uplift narratives of resistance, while artivism further amplified the call for safe abortion through creative and cultural expression.


Causa Justa por el Aborto mobilized nationwide in commemoration of September 28. In Bogotá, Colombia, activists marched together to demand the full implementation of Sentence C-055 of 2022 and to defend reproductive autonomy, freedom, and dignity.

IPAS Latin America transformed public spaces into a celebration where the fight for safe abortion resonated louder than ever, raising voices for the nine states that have yet to decriminalize abortion and for countries in the region that still fully criminalize this right

On September 29, 2025, the the the Philippine Safe Abortion Advocacy Network (PINSAN) launched the Decriminalize Abortion Campaign in Quezon City, marking a significant milestone for the reproductive justice movement in the Philippines.

The Collège National des Gynécologues Obstétriciens du Bénin, the Coalition des Jeunes pour l’Avortement Sécurisé, and the Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights organized community and institutional engagement activities in Benin, Africa, as part of the Kaleidoscope Initiative.

On 28 September 2025, Barokupot Ganochetona Foundation led community-level awareness and advocacy efforts in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, Bangladesh, advancing safe, accessible, and rights-based reproductive health services for marginalized women, girls, and persons with disabilities.

The Rural to Global Organization commemorated International Safe Abortion Day in Kenya with health students, youth, healthcare providers, advocates, female sex workers (FSWs), and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

In celebration of International Safe Abortion Day, the Center for Reproductive Rights in Geneva adorned the Mont-Blanc Bridge with green flags, the iconic color of the abortion rights movement, bearing the message: “Reproductive Rights are Human Rights.”

WGNRR Africa, in partnership with organizations across East Africa, conducted #DefendThePromise: Bridging Law and Lived Realities in SRHR, centering grassroots voices in legal advocacy efforts aimed at bridging the gaps between the laws and lived realities of women, girls, and gender-diverse people.

The Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights, in partnership with various local organizations, organized “Know the Bills, Shape the Future!” – a youth briefing on the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancies and the Decriminalization of Abortion Bills, held on September 30, 2025, at UP Diliman, Philippines.

Red de Médicas por el Derecho a Decidir – México took part in the global poster action organized by Shout Your Abortion, joining collectives and organizations worldwide in displaying posters created by a Mexican artist @marmarmaremoto.

The Media Health & Rights Initiative of Nigeria (MHR), together with RAES, Education As A Vaccine, and the Network for Safeguarding Women’s Health & Rights, concluded the ISAD commemoration in Nigeria with an intimate hangout for pro-choice advocates called “Ajọṣe”.

Peace Foundation Pakistan organized two interactive sessions with male and female students of the Paramedical Institute in Hyderabad, Sindh, aiming to strengthen their knowledge and skills on safe and medical abortion.

In digital spaces, communities challenged stigma through conversations, information drives, and the widespread sharing of accurate abortion access resources. Online platforms were also transformed into sites of resistance through coordinated actions and social media campaigns, using hashtags such as #Sept28, #ISAD2025, #SafeAbortionSavesLives, #AbortionIsHumanRight and #AbortionIsHealthcare to strengthen visibility and global solidarity.

The Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights, which coordinates the September 28 campaign globally, produced a campaign toolkit that includes social media cards used by the abortion rights movement.
Various organizations, including the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU), translated the global call to action into their respective languages to share key messages on safe abortion.
IPPF continues its online campaign #WordsToWin, highlighting the power of language to inspire and mobilize action for reproductive justice, including safe abortion.

Clacai Legal Network (Red Jurídica de Clacai) and the Latin American and Caribbean Women’s Health Network (Red de Salud de las Mujeres Latinoamericanas y del Caribe), in collaboration with various organizations, organized a Global Virtual Forum on abortion.

Posted on the Health and Family YouTube channel, the video highlights the crucial role of healthcare providers in delivering safe, respectful, and rights-based abortion care. It also reiterate professionalism, respect, and compassion empower seeker to make informed decisions about their well-being and future

Women’s rights groups in Nairobi, advocating for urgent reforms to expand access to safe abortion services, were featured on Citizen TV Kenya, highlighting their campaign actions and call to action during International Safe Abortion Day 2025.

This video from the Center for Reproductive Rights highlights mifepristone as a safe and effective medication, emphasizing its life-saving impact and the importance of protecting access to essential reproductive healthcare.

ARROW and SAIGE also collaborated with Everystory Lanka, a Sri Lanka based feminist
collective to create a video portraying ground realities in accessing abortion and post abortion care in a South Asian context.

The Centro de Estudios de Derechos Sexuales y Reproductivos (CEDESEX) conducted street interviews to gather unfiltered public perspectives on abortion, opening space for honest reactions, beliefs, and lived experiences to surface.

The Young Activist Network for Abortion Advocacy hosted an ISAD 2025 Instagram Live with the Center for Intimacy Justice and Repro Uncensored on protecting abortion and reproductive rights in the digital sphere.

A four-part video series on the step-by-step process of having an abortion at home was posted on the Instagram page of Abortion Support South Africa, in collaboration with Women on Web and Shout Your Abortion.

Episode 6 of MenosRosaMasVioleta, a podcast by 100estrogeno, focused on “Abortion, a Human Right” for the ISAD 2025, which highlighted the context of abortion decriminalization in Venezuela.

IPPF Americas & Caribbean produced a video highlighting that abortion is an experience shared across diverse identities, emphasizing the key message: “My body, my choice.”
Youth Oceans distributed forms allowing people to anonymously ask questions, which were answered by Dr. Nin Wilson, Senior SRHR Advisor for the IPPF Pacific, which created a safe online space to ask anything.
YEM Kenya, in partnership with WGNRR Africa, created a video expressing solidarity with abortion seekers and providers, which was shared on TikTok.

The campaign draws on a variety of materials, including publications, news articles, legal atlases, and joint statements that document abortion laws, reproductive rights advancements, and global advocacy efforts.

in the region.
The Center for Reproductive Rights highlights “Five Wins to Celebrate this International Safe Abortion Day,” showcasing key legal and policy victories as proof an equitable future for reproductive rights is possible.

As the September 28 International Safe Abortion Day comes to a close, this year’s campaign has once again demonstrated the strength of the unstoppable abortion movement and its global solidarity in advancing safe, legal, timely, affordable, and stigma-free abortion care.
