Youth Talk Abortion will be a facilitated online workshop series designed by youth advocates for youth advocates in the age group of 18-35 to to strengthen the capacity of the young abortion rights activists and strengthen the abortion rights movement. Post the workshop series, the participants will be invited to join the YANAA network as members to continue the dialogue with other youth advocates from other contexts and regions.

2022 Theme: Abortion in Uncertain Times

In spite of more than 100 years of campaigns in country after country around the world for the right to safe abortion, the continuing criminalization of abortion kills and harms countless thousands of women every year, especially young and single women and those without the contacts and resources to obtain a safe abortion. This situation is often grounded in colonial laws that have never been abolished, and are supported by right-wing and anti-women governments, politicians, judges and religious leaders.

First call to action

On 28 May, we will commemorate the International Day of Action for Women’s Health and join with activists around the world to highlight our demands for the right to access safe abortion. Amid growing global crises and uncertainty, we assert that continuing rollbacks, shrinking civic space and proliferation of false narratives have a negative impact on sexual and reproductive health and rights, especially among disenfranchised and marginalised communities. We come together to combat the multiple crises we face by calling on our governments to recognise that access to safe abortion is essential health care and central to all crisis responses.
